Harvey’s Story

On December 5th, 2021 Harvey was out in his yard with his family when something grabbed his attention, and he went running into traffic and was hit by a car. After being hit Harvey was spooked and took off running while his family tried to get his attention and get him back to safety. Unfortunately Harvey was so scared at this point that even when his family tried to help him, all he could think to do was keep running. His family immediately reached out to the Humane Society of Freeborn County for help as well as posting on their own social media platforms about what had happened, in hopes that someone would have seen him and been able to help get him back home. The Humane Society of Freeborn County got him posted on their Facebook page as well as putting the word out to volunteers asking for help. Harvey’s story went VIRAL in no time! He had half the town out looking for him all hours of the day and night, and he had people states away following his story, rooting for his safe recovery and asking for updates. People in the community not only spread the word quickly, came out to help search but they also messaged and called in with sightings. Everyone was doing everything they could to help Harvey get home safe. Hours went by with no new sightings and the winter weather, and early sunsets definitely didn’t help Harvey’s case. FINALLY on December 6th, 2021 the family received a sighting notice and went out to where he had been seen and they found Harvey! Harvey was spooked, cold, hungry, and had some tough looking paws - but he was alive and safe. His family got him in the car and took him straight to the vet to be seen. Everyone helping or following Harvey’s story celebrated with joy at the news that Harvey was okay and would have no long term damage from his scary adventure out on his own. Now Harvey and his family would like to do what they can to give back to the community that rallied so impressively to help Harvey in his time of need. His family set up a fundraiser, and created Harvey’s Fund to do just that.
