S.A.S. Program
Seniors Adopting Seniors
The Freeborn County Humane Society now offers a program that helps senior pets and senior humans come together. There are scientific studies that show seniors that have a companion animal have:
Increased physical activity
Increased socialization
A greater sense of general security
Less loneliness, depression and anxiety
A happier state of being which benefits overall health
Love, affection and companionship
S.A.S. also benefits senior animals by finding homes for pets that may otherwise be overlooked due to age, or homes that may have more energy than is ideal for a senior pet.
How does it work?
Senior humans can adopt a senior pet for half of our normal adoption fee. The adoption process is still the same, an approved application is required and all current pets must be spayed / neutered and up to date on vaccinations.
Who qualifies?
Humans 65 years and older
Dogs 7 years and older
Cats 8 years and older

Working Cat Program
The Freeborn County Humane Society helps provide safe forever homes for cats that are unsuitable for adoption through our working cat program.
**Please note - working cats are not suited for adoption and are for working purposes only. There is no fee for our working cats, but all guidelines must be followed.**
Find out more about our working cat program and submit a request for working cats on our resources page.
